>> well, get out the rape gear. rain is coming and looks like it sticks around for awhile. good evening. we could see 72 hours of rain in back-to-back storms. let's get right to spencer who is tracking it all for us on radar. spencer. >> look at live doppler 7 hd. rate now we see pockets of moisture pick up on the radar screen here. don't have reports of actual rainfall hitting the ground yet from any of our official reporting stations but with the pockets of moisture we are seeing in places lake petaluma and other locations along the sonoma county coast line and some spots down near san francisco there could be some sprinkles hitting the ground in some of the places but we are not getting measurable rainfall ye yet. let me loop the image and show you what is going on. moisture coming from our south west along with is rather mailed air mass so won't get cold along with the rains that are approaching us right now but we will see steady rain in the overnight hours. probably wet during the morning commute and we have wave after wave of rain coming next couple days. closer look with the detailed accu-weather 7 day forecast in

just a few minutes. it has never been done on mass scale quite like this. chico state university president announced today that all social greek activity on campus are now suspended. medley. and until further notice. this happened after student died of alcohol over dose. campus newspaper says the student was pledging a fraternity. all greek activit activities at chico state suspended social activities for the time being. now to san francisco 49ers head coach harbaugh is expected to be back with the team tomorrow. harbaugh had a minor procedure done at stanford university hospital after doctors there found that he had an irregular heart beat. here's lee ann. >>reporter: practice went on today as scheduled at the 49ers facility in santa clara even though coach harbaugh was not there. >> coach harbaugh is at the facility today under doctor orders. he's having a minor procedure done today at stanford university hospital.

even rummage through the 3-year-old son toy box. the worst part is ails when she looked in her own closet she realized the burglars had taken the urn that contained her late baby ashes. >> the baby's urn was in a jewelry box right here. >>reporter: this is what the urn looks like. it contains the remains of the infant son who died in january just 3 hours after he was born. >> they took that box and inside that box has the casing and my baby's urn were his ash ins it. >>reporter: the silver heart shape urn is 4 inches wide and 2"tall and engraved with the baby name gabriel. it was inside a box on a closet shelf. >> if you like to think they maybe didn't know what they took. >> yes. i'm almost sure they didn't know what they took. i don't think anybody would want to take an urn. not worth anything to anybody else. except us. >>reporter: she will likely never see the tv or the cam

end is where they rose to record highs. 7 news reporter heather has the story. >> california energy commission says 2012 has been a record year for the number and severity of gasoline price spike. today state senator leno went searching for answers why. to ask if the state can do more to protect consumers. it is certainly not the first hearing of its kind but first time we have heard this. >> we seem to have some information from the air quality district that in fact there was ongoing production at a time when they say they were shut down. >>reporter: oregon base consultant says his pain-staking analysis of environmental emission data suggest that in may shell martinez plant was making gasoline for at least one of the two weeks it claimed to have been shut down. chevron richmond refinery was to be shut down for would weeks in may but he says emission data show it never shut down. but even with those shut downs real or fabricated and the richmond

fire in august, he says he can't explain the record setting october price spike. >> there was no evidence of disaster here quite frankly i can't explain it. >>reporter: the western state petroleum association representing 12 of the state 14 refinery shot back to his conclusions were based on third party information from the bay area air quality management district not from refinery themselves. there's no evidence refinery were operating when shut down for maintenance. there were multiple disruption that is caused a major disruption to the west coast gas supply and the market worked as expected. there is no price fixing schem scheme. he believes even if there's no industry wrongdoing, there is a need for more transparency and possibly more regulation. >> what we have on gasoline and oil is a situation where the data is weak. enforcements is weak. and access to that

it gave a registered sex offender special permission to be on an elementary school campus. we have the story. >>reporter: law is you are sex offender sex offender for life. you do not have a right to be on a school ground. you can go to church. big 0. he's not allowed to be on this school. >>reporter: she was outraged when she saw this man registered sex offender mark vounl fearing at her daughter ask. he was in the midst of hundreds of young children at st. francis catholic school in san jose. he was volunteering during a fall festival fundraiser last month. >> my 19-year-old was the one that noticed who he was. when we had asked to have him removed the answer we got was he has a letter and he's allowed to be here. >>reporter: sheriff deputy ultimately escorted the man off the property but didn't arrest him because she confirmed he had a letter from the diocese of san jose giving him clearance to be there. >> this is one of the exceptions to the rule.

essentially he could be a sex offender but if you have permission by school administrator you can be on campus. >>reporter: spokesperson from the diocese said the letter was written 2 years ago and at the time the adtor in charge felt it was appropriate but today the diocese issued a statement that reads in part the letter by which he was able to be admitted as volunteer is not consistent with the policies of the diocese of san jose. some parents of the school are fine with the church's position. >> i'm assuming that he's probably part of the church and they probably given him a second chance. >>reporter: you are okay with that. >> i am if the church is. >>reporter: she's furious the church gave the man special permission to be on campus and when she raised concerns an administrator suggested it was her husband who should leave the school event. >> you don't sweep things under the carpet i'm sorry. you don't kick my husband who has been her for 15 years and let a pedophile here who has no children here. >>reporter: aside from issue ago brief statement the man

on its way right now. this will bring milder air with it. second storm over the weekend colder air. so here we go let's look live view from the high definition sutro camera looking out eastward over san francisco and out over the bay under cloudy skies and rain is certainly approaching. maybe a sprinkle or 2 somewhere hitting the ground around the bay area but don't have official reports yet of rainfall. as you can see on live doppler 7 hd it's getting pretty close. just offshore right now. we have a little pockets of moisture. we have lots of clouds and by midnight or so maybe a little bit after midnight we see rain falling across the bay area. this is our looping radar image over last 3 hours showing approaching moisture from the south west coming up in our correction. the air is mailed later in the week when the second storm comes in coming from the northwest bringing colder air. temperatures are open the mild side. we have readings mainly upper 50's around 60. 60 in san francisco right now but couple relatively cool spots. 50 in concord. 50 fair field 51 at nap a.on we good to forecast feature we see

light showers developing around or just after midnight. periods of rain. moderate avy at times through sunday morning then we have chance office rain again next week just about every day next week a chance of some rainfall. overnight tonight it's showering. rainy low temperature mainly low 50's so again pretty mild overnight period. here's satellite image see the storm offshore with the counterclockwise circulation wrapping around this moisture bringing up from our south west so here it comes. here comes the mild and moist air mass that brings us rainfall overnight and into the morning hours. starting forecast animation left okay tonight couple sprinkles and overnight hours system better organized. 5:00 o'clock tomorrow morning rush hour begins we should have some wet spots. mainly up in the north bay where looks like the heaviest concentration rate at take that hour and other periods of rainfall during the day and it could be wet again for the afternoon and evening

commute tomorrow then tomorrow night we have another wave of moisture and rainfall coming in around 11:00 o'clock or so. during the overnight hours into saturday morning by 6:00 o'clock saturday morning we could see isolated thunderstorms as atmosphere rather unstable. then saturday night we get the cold front coming down from the northwest bringing in yet another storm system and cold air behind it but on sunday we do expect some at least periods of clearing or partial clearing as showers taper off for awhile but by sunday morning we also expect to have received quite a bit of rainfall. perhaps up to three inches in the north bay mountains. 2 inches in the santa cruz mountains up to inch or inch and a half in many other location around the bay area. in the sierra next few days in the tahoe area mainly rain around lake level on friday saturday as the air rather mild. enough to go way up high 8,000 feet to find snow tomorrow and saturday but on sunday is the colder storm comes in snow fall in the tahoe area. tomorrow in the bay area high pressure in the 60's and waves of rain or showers.

to such senior levels. they were essentially doing a favor for general petraeus. >>reporter: brian ross reporting. >> major settlement announced today over the 2010 oil spill in the gulf of mexico. worth environmental disaster in history. bp agreed to pay a record 4.5 billion dollars and also pleading guilty to criminal charges related to the death of 11 workers and lying to congress. 3 bp workers have also been charged, 2 facing manslaughter charges. this settlement is the largest single criminal fine in u.s. history. bp has 5 years to pay the fine. the words of a little girl brought an entire courtroom in ft. worth, texas to tears. 9-year-old little girl is a happy kid despite what happened to her. she spoke during the sentencing of drunk driver who put her in a wheelchair. that driver 19-year-old jeremy had a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit. he was sentenced to continue years in prison and plea deal

>> they gave no public notice of that. they gave no legal process to that. >>reporter: the property sits on land which was originally designated as residential zone. old store was the venerable italian deli called stan lean i that was a legal non-conforming be. neighbors say the new 7-11 violates a zoning code that says when such a building has been discontinued or abandoned for 6 months, it should revert back to residential. the building has been vacant for nearly two years since the other deli shut the doors. city community development director lisa growth believes the controversy boils did you know to one thing. >> was it ever abandoned and what is that definition of abandonment. >>reporter: she says the new landlord made minor repair to the interior of the old deli. so that showed they weren't abandoning the building. the. >> they were continuing to
